Experience

Kieran has over 13 years' experience advising clients on IP matters relating to physics and engineering technologies. Specialist technical areas include medical devices, automotive, graphene, subsea engineering, particle accelerators, detectors, spectroscopy and microscopy.

Kieran's practice focuses mainly on the identification and procurement of IP rights and he routinely works with clients to maximise the value that may be extracted from R&D work undertaken. He has extensive experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications and is skilled at formulating innovative strategies that strike an effective balance between protection of commercially valuable concepts and clients' budgets.

Kieran represents a wide range of clients from start ups to universities and international organisations. He is experienced in handling large global patent portfolios and works with associates across the world to provide his clients with proactive, commercially-focused advice, ensuring that the IP strategy complements his clients' objectives.

In addition to drafting and prosecution work, Kieran has experience of handling contentious matters relating to patent infringement and entitlement issues. Kieran has attended hearings before the European Patent Office's Examining Division, Opposition Division and Boards of Appeal, as well as the UK Intellectual Property Enterprise Court (IPEC), achieving positive outcomes for his clients in each forum.
