Oppositions & appeals

Oppositions at the European Patent Office (EPO) are the only opportunity that a party has for central revocation of a European patent. Consequently, oppositions are valuable business tools which can be used to gain competitive advantage, whether attacking a competitor’s patent or mounting a robust defence of your own patent.

As one of Europe’s leading opposition and appeals providers*, HGF’s success is based on an understanding that winning solutions are founded on outstanding technical and legal skills, commercial nous and unstinting preparation.

Our dedicated Oppositions & Appeals team coordinates with HGF’s broader attorney group to share best practice and provide a sounding board for internal debate. Our principal oppositions attorney team comprises 20 partners and 14 senior attorneys with expertise that spans the technical spectrum, each supported by a formalities team with extensive opposition experience.

*IAM Magazine, Dec 2020 states that HGF is Europe’s fourth largest provider of Opposition services, representing clients in over 2.5% of all Oppositions filed at the EPO.
