Salzburg Seminar: Pitfalls in trade mark practice – What can be protected as a trade mark?

February 2025

Event date: 18th March 2025

The registration of trade marks is a central component of trade mark protection – but which signs can actually be protected? In recent years, the national trade mark offices and the European Trade Mark Office (EUIPO) have made various decisions that indicate that the requirements for the protectability of trade marks have become stricter. But is this really the case? Or is there simply a more precise examination of trade mark applications?

These and other questions are the focus of our specialist seminar “Pitfalls in trade mark practice – What can be protected as a trade mark?”, which will take place on 18 March 2024 at HGF in Salzburg. We will shed light on current developments in trade mark law, analyse the latest decisions by the trade mark offices, and discuss their impact on practice.

Contents of the seminar
✔ Current developments in trade mark registration at the national trade mark offices and EUIPO
✔ Analysis of recent decisions and their significance for applicants
