Experience

James is a Chartered UK and European Patent Attorney with a broad range of experience across a multitude of technology sectors. James has particular experience in the fields of medical devices, software, energy, defence, telecommunications and additive manufacturing. Together with his patent practice, James has experience prosecuting registered designs, and specialises in devising coherent IP strategies that use patents and registered designs in tandem to provide enhanced protection for commercial products.

He has provided efficient, commercially-focused IP solutions for both 1-person micro-entities and some of the world's most recognisable multinational companies (together with everything in between). James enjoys working through the entire lifetime of an invention, from invention disclosure to intellectual property enforcement.

James graduated from the University of Manchester in 2016 with a first class master’s degree in physics. James undertook research projects in protein interaction modelling and non-linear fluid dynamics as part of the final master's year. James then pursued a PhD in computational non-linear fluid dynamics at the University of Edinburgh. His research focused on using low dimensional models to study chaotic attractors in the transition to turbulence. Whilst undertaking the PhD, he assisted with teaching undergraduate modules on theoretical physics and a graduate machine learning course.
