Experience

Frédéric Didelon is a Partner and European Patent Attorney in HGF’s Life Sciences team. He has more than 25 years of IP experience across the pharmaceutical industry, private practice and the European Patent Office, including 17 years at Novartis, where he most recently served as Senior Patent Attorney for R&D IP and Neuroscience.

His background as an EPO examiner, private practice attorney and senior in-house patent counsel gives him a distinctive perspective on patent prosecution, opposition proceedings and strategic IP advisory work. He advises pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies on IP strategies that support research, development, partnering and product lifecycle objectives.

Frédéric has shaped and executed patent strategies for neurodegenerative disease programmes from early research to Phase I–III clinical development, as well as gene therapy projects for rare diseases. His experience spans biologics, gene therapies, neuroscience, rare diseases and small-molecule therapeutics. He has drafted and prosecuted patent applications covering products, medical uses, clinical features, formulations and processes; led IP strategies and advice for global and local project teams, managed global portfolios; conducted numerous IP due diligence; and supported licensing, collaboration and partnering activities. This involved working closely with scientists, clinicians, regulatory experts, business development teams and senior executives to support investment, partnering and lifecycle management decisions.

With a PhD in Biophysics specializing in molecular genetics and neuroscience, Frédéric combines scientific depth, first-hand EPO insight and extensive industry experience to help clients build and defend valuable patent portfolios, navigate complex development and partnering environments, and shape IP strategies that support long-term commercial success.
