Experience

Chris currently manages HGF Oppositions and Appeals Team and is the Office Head of our Birmingham Office.

Chris' practice spans the chemical and engineering fields with particular interest in electrochemistry, fuel cells, polymers, ceramics and materials on the chemistry side as well as the health care, FMCG (e-cigarettes), aerospace and construction industries.

Oppositions at the European Patent Office (EPO) provides a majority of Chris' practice where he works on high-value, business-critical patents (defensively and offensively) for a number of large clients.

Chris also has an active due diligence practice, providing advice on IP aspects of commercial M & A deals and has acted as a UK patent expert in foreign litigation.

Chris works with his clients (whether they be multinationals, SMEs or universities) to provide high-quality, focused advice to ensure that maximum returns can be achieved.

Chris provides pro bono IP support to a number of business incubators in the West Midlands area, including the Bizz Inn in Birmingham.

Chris regularly talks at various events to provide IP training.

Chris was, until recently, the principal examiner for the UK patent attorney professional examinations (FD4 Infringement and Validity) and is now becoming a mentor for trainees.
