Experience

As a patent attorney and IP strategist, Andrew is passionate about the innovators and investors bringing disruptive technologies to market in biotechnology, novel foods, precision medicine, and cleantech.

He specialises in working with startups, SMEs, and high-growth technologies, where he provides strategic advice to help clients secure their position, attract investment, and defend their niche. Andrew also has extensive experience working with investor clients, performing IP diligence ahead of investment decisions. On both sides of the table, he has built IP strategies that have taken companies from inception through to IPO and beyond.

Andrew joined HGF in May 2025. Prior to this, Andrew worked for two other IP firms, with a focus on biotechnology, food technology, and due diligence. He also spent a period doing paid freelance consultancy for venture capital investors, start-ups, and accelerators, providing a unique insight into this fast-paced sector.

He is a keen commentator on IP issues, particularly in food technology, with columns published in Patent Lawyer Magazine, The Future of Protein Production, New Food Magazine, Tea & Coffee Trade Journal, The Cell Base, International Pet Food, British Baker, and The Grocer.

Andrew followed his undergraduate studies at the University of Cambridge with a PhD project joint awarded by the University of Liverpool and RIKEN Institute Japan, where he spent two years on secondment at their Yokohama campus.
