Experience

Andrew is a highly experienced European and Chartered UK Patent Attorney recognised by his colleagues for having fierce analytical skills and an impressive attention to detail. Andrew's career has in recent years focused on European patent oppositions and he has masterminded successfully opposing numerous standards essential video coding and telecommunications patents.

From his opposition experience, Andrew has developed a sharp awareness of potential post-grant vulnerabilities and uses this in his drafting and prosecution work to assist his Clients in maintaining and improving the quality of the European patents in their portfolios.

Andrew has prosecuted many European patent applications targeted towards emerging telecommunications standards or competing third party products, achieving grant of a high proportion of the applications on target.

Andrew also has considerable experience of directing prosecution of patent applications in various countries around the world including in particular the US, China, Japan and Korea. He is also experienced in performing due diligence for investors, performing IP audits, providing patent filing strategy advice, providing patentability opinions, freedom to operate analysis and opinions on patent infringement and validity.

Having completed an undergraduate masters degree in electronic and electrical engineering and a PhD in laser based gas sensing, Andrew has a broad technical base in electronics, photonics and physics. Andrew also has significant patent experience in computer software, wireless communications, low power microprocessors, mobile device positioning, MEMS, image sensors, image processing, hydraulic pumps and motors, valves, medical devices and aerospace technologies. Andrew also has a growing interest in AI.
