World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development 2022

March 2022

March 4th, 2022 marks World Engineering Day for sustainable development. This year’s theme is #BuildBackWiser, focusing attention on sustainable engineering. Many of HGF’s clients are actively involved at the forefront of sustainable engineering. One such company is Resolute Energy Solutions. Partly borne out of a fascination with the unusual properties of swellable polymers, Resolute’s founder, Iain Lees, has managed to convert a production waste material into a niche solution. Rather than an awkward waste problem, Resolute have effectively developed a sort of ‘smart landfill’. Initially deployed to plug abandoned oil wells to protect local environments, Resolute have expanded their polymeric offering to provide unique solutions for other energy infrastructures.

Although intellectual property might not seem the most obvious facet of sustainable engineering, protecting developments appropriately can help ensure long-term viability. HGF’s teams of intellectual property experts, including the specialist Engineering team, provide flexible services that match businesses‘ expansion and support sustainability to help #BuildBackWiser.

About World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development

World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development was proclaimed by UNESCO at its 40th General Conference in 2019. It is celebrated worldwide on 4th March of each year since 2020 as a UNESCO international day of celebration of engineers and engineering.

The celebration of World Engineering Day is an opportunity to promote engineering as a career and highlighting how engineering can change the world for the better. The Day is an opportunity to engage with government and industry to address the need for engineering capacity and the quality of engineers around the world and develop strategic frameworks and best practices for the implementation of engineering solutions for sustainable development.
