Sustainable Protein Production and Animal Microbiome Virtual Summit 2020

September 2020

Event date: 8th September 2020

Sustainable Protein Production and Animal Microbiome Virtual Summit 2020 will be held on 8-10th September. HGF Partner Craig Thomson will be hosting a session on 9th September at 9:45am EDT.

Microbiome and IP – How to Build a Commercially Relevant Patent Portfolio

As an Animal Microbiome innovator, there are many combinations of reasons to consider building an IP Portfolio: to protect a monopoly of sales for your product or service, to enhance valuation of your company for sale, to enhance your bargaining position with a collaborator or competitor, or to form part of the package designed to attract investors. No matter the reason, or combinations of reasons, a coherent IP strategy that recognises the specific timelines and commercial goals of your company is vital.

Using the International IP systems to protect many of the innovations in the microbiome field has very specific challenges; adding another burden to the job of creating of an appropriate IP strategy. Indeed, an important part of such a strategy is the consideration of when not to protect by registered IP rights. Craig will provide a road-map of actions to be taken and considered when developing such strategies for an Animal Microbiome innovator.
