Dr Jennifer Bailey

Patent Director

Jennifer provides patent advice across a wide range of sectors spanning life sciences, chemistry, materials and food science. In particular, she has advised on inventions relating to microbial cell culture, recombinant protein expression, nucleic acids, antimicrobials, plasmids, bacteriophage, CRISPR technology, peptide and small molecule therapeutics, biomarkers and diagnostic assays. Jennifer is a member of HGF’s Microbiome Team.

Jennifer works closely with Universities, SMEs, in-house IP teams and overseas law firms, helping them navigate the complexities of patent law in order to protect their commercial interests. 

With over ten years’ in the patent profession, Jennifer has considerable experience of drafting and prosecuting patent applications, and worldwide portfolio management. She regularly carries out patentability reviews, advises on filing strategies, and provides opinions on third party rights. She also enjoys delivering IP training to companies and academics to raise awareness of Intellectual Property as a business asset. In addition, Jennifer is well-versed in EPO Opposition and Appeal procedure, having represented clients in numerous hearings.

Prior to joining the patent profession Jennifer obtained a first class Masters degree in Chemistry from the University of Warwick, which included one year in the pharmaceutical industry, followed by a PhD in Molecular Microbiology from the University of Birmingham.  

Jennifer joined HGF in August 2019.
