Autonomous Vehicles Expo 2021

August 2021

Event date: 9th September 2021

HGF is sponsoring the Autonomous Vehicles Expo which is being held on 9th September.

Autonomous Vehicles Expo will provide key insights from industry experts on how disruptive technological advances will revolutionise all aspects of travel and logistics over the coming decade.

HGF Partner Dr Chris Benson and Senior Patent Attorney Dr Janine Swarbrick will be attending the event. Chris will also be speaking on ‘Patents, Standards and the Automotive Vehicles‘:

The number of patent applications filed for technology relating to autonomous vehicles has grown almost exponentially during the last decade. Whilst traditional automotive companies are responsible for a significant proportion of these filings, many applications are also being filed by companies not traditionally associated with the automotive sector. These new applicants include tech companies, such as Alphabet and Google, but also communication companies including Huawei, Broadcom and Nokia. This highlights that a fundamental component of autonomous vehicle technology is communication technology to allow vehicles to communicate with each other and with infrastructure. To support communication between different types of equipment and manufacturers standardisation is required. The communication sector has long been well versed in dealing with standards, such as those relating to 4G LTE etc., and how patents providing a monopoly right are compatible with standardisation. In this talk we will explore how patents and standards relate to autonomous vehicles.
