Matthew also studied at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München in Germany, specialising in improving the efficiency and intensity of OLED technology by designing a catalogue of novel tertiary phosphine ligands for coordination with cheaper, alternative metals, removing the need for reliance on rare earth metals. During his Masters studies, Matthew worked on researching a family of fluorophores known as Boranils, which are commonly used for imaging probes, fluorescent dyes and switches.

Since joining HGF in 2018 as a Trainee Patent Attorney, Matthew has gained experience in patent drafting, prosecution and freedom-to-operate matters in a number of different areas of chemistry.
