Alex is pragmatic and straight-talking. Whether working with in-house counsel at large corporates or first-time patent applicants, he garners praise for guiding clients through the complexities of patent issues to achieve solutions most useful to their businesses. He has expertise in delivering great value advise, having made a speciality of helping clients with tight margins and those in the early stages of commercialising their ideas.
His colleagues describe him as a safe pair of hands, which is why Alex handles matters for some of HGF’s largest clients, and helps to develop its commercial relationships. Clients benefit from his creative ability to revitalise the fortunes of the most struggling patent applications before both the UK Intellectual Property Office and the European Patent Office.
While Alex has successfully prepared and prosecuted patent applications in wide variety of subject-matter in the field of mechanical engineering, he is focused primarily on building technologies and construction products, medical devices, automotive and aerospace technologies, and textiles. Alex’s practice is not limited to prosecution work, as he regularly advises on infringement and validity matters, and is building a winning record of oppositions and appeals.
Alex came to HGF from Newcastle University, where he gained a first-class Master’s degree in civil and structural engineering, and a PhD in structural engineering.
