Pride 2022 webinar – ‘Standing in the Wind’ by Robin Moira White

August 2022

Event date: 6th September 2022

HGF is hosting a talk by Robin Moira White, Barrister at Old Square Chambers as part of our Pride 2022 celebrations.

Date

Tuesday 6th September

Time

12:30 (BST) / 13:30 (CEST)

About the webinar

In 2011 Robin became the first (and still only) barrister in the UK to transition from male to female in practice at the discrimination bar. Her practice covers all protected characteristics under the UK Equality Act and she acts equally for Claimants and Respondents. In recent years the number of trans and anti-trans (‘gender critical’) cases has risen and Robin has acted in a number of the leading cases. She lectures and writes extensively in this area and has given evidence to both the Westminster and Scottish parliaments which appear to be taking different approaches to gender self-declaration.

The debate about trans gender rights has become increasingly charged and toxic.

Robin will speak about her experiences of transition, practice as a trans lawyer and the trans landscape in the UK at the moment.

The webinar is free to attend and will last for approximately an hour.

About Robin

Robin became the first barrister to transition from male to female in practice at the discrimination bar in 2011. She practices in all aspects of employment and discrimination law and lectures regularly on the area, including transgender rights, in which she has appeared in a number of notable cases, and she acts for employers and employees. Chambers & Partners has described her as ‘the go to lawyer for trans cases’. She has published ‘A practical guide to transgender law’ in May 2021, written jointly with Nicola Newbegin of Old Square Chambers.

In September 2020 Robin was named ‘Barrister of the Week’ by The Lawyer Magazine for her work on the Taylor v Jaguar Land Rover case. She was shortlisted for two Chambers UK Bar Awards this year – for ‘Outstanding Contribution to Diversity & Inclusion’ and ‘Employment Junior of the Year’ and was also shortlisted for ‘Law Firm Leader of the Year’ at the Women, Influence & Power in Law UK Awards 2022.
