Russell is a Chartered and European Patent Attorney with more than 25 years of experience helping innovative businesses protect and maximise the value of their technologies.

Russell focuses on developing and managing patent portfolios that underpin business growth, support investment and strategic partnerships, and maximise the commercial value of innovation. He has extensive experience securing patent protection for technologies across the chemical and life sciences sectors and advising on the strategic management of global patent portfolios.

He works closely with clients to address key intellectual property challenges, including developing patent strategies that align with their business objectives, securing robust and commercially relevant protection for valuable innovations, navigating complex patent landscapes, assessing freedom-to-operate risks, strengthening competitive positioning, and managing intellectual property risks associated with growth and international expansion.

His experience spans a broad range of chemistry and life sciences technologies, including next-generation sequencing (NGS), spatial genomics, proteomics, and nucleic acid and protein-based therapeutics. Combining technical expertise with commercial judgement, he helps organisations ranging from early-stage ventures and scale-ups to established multinational businesses build patent portfolios that withstand investor scrutiny, support investment readiness and increase enterprise value.

Alongside his client work, Russell has held a number of senior leadership positions in private practice, including leadership of patent teams and risk management functions. This combination of hands-on patent expertise and strategic leadership enables him to provide pragmatic, commercially focused advice that supports both immediate business priorities and long-term growth.
