HGF Complete: Brexit Webinars

October 2020

Webinar

The UK is due to leave the EU trade mark and design system (EU IPO) at 11pm on 31st December 2020. At that time identical UK trade mark and design registrations will be automatically created, cloned from the European Union registrations they are no longer part of.

HGF Complete can manage this process in the UK free of charge for you.

As part of this campaign, HGF is holding a series of webinars, where we will go into more detail on what Brexit means for trade mark and design registrations.

Webinar 1

Brexit - The impact on trade marks and designs; the basics

The webinar was held on 10th September. It was designed to give a basic but comprehensive overview of the impact of design and trade mark rights in the UK and EU and provide you with a good foundation for the Brexit webinars to follow.

Webinar 3

Brexit: the big day is nigh! A discussion of Brexit and its impact on trade marks and designs

Thursday 5th November 2020 4pm (GMT) or Friday 6th November 9am (GMT)

Speaker: HGF Partner Lee Curtis

The webinar is designed to give a final overview to the impact of Brexit on trade mark and design practice in the immediate run up to the end of the transitional period on 31st December 2020 with an eye to real time events, most notably the negotiation of the EU/UK free trade agreement.

As with all things Brexit, the political dimension should not be over looked and its impact of IP. It is likely by the date of this webinar we will know whether the UK and EU have or are likely to reach a free trade agreement governing their future trade relationship. We will look at the impact of this ‘deal’ or ‘no deal’ on IP such as Geographical Indications and other aspects of trade mark and design law and practice. We will also look forward to that post-Brexit world considering issues of exhaustion of rights and where potentially the UK is likely to diverge from EU trade mark and design practice in the future. A brief synopsis of our previous two webinars will also be provided in light of recent developments.
