For any medicine marketed in Europe, a key commercial consideration is the timing of generic or biosimilar market entry. Protection from competition is derived from two principal sources: intellectual property rights (patents and Supplementary Protection Certificates), and regulatory exclusivities. The new EU Pharma Package introduces changes to the regulatory exclusivities that are available.
