Navigating social media: legal issues and practical solutions

April 2015

Date: Tuesday 14th April 2015

Time: 5.30pm registration.  Event starts at 6pm followed by a drinks reception

Social media is one of the biggest risk areas for companies today – but no organisation can avoid having a social media presence. The pace at which social media is developing as a key component for business promotion and development is matched only by the proliferation of legal issues involved in regulating and controlling use of these exciting but complex platforms.

Our Social Media Social will explore these risks and offer some solutions.  You’ll also have time to network with like minded individuals to share their thoughts.

 The issues we’ll address include:

  • key intellectual property issues to understand when active in social media - brand disparagement, trade mark and copyright infringement and passing-off
  • key compliance issues
  • data protection and information security
  • scenarios to avoid at all costs
  • best-practice – how to get social media campaigns right first time
  • effectively managing the use by employees of social media
  • what to do when social media disasters strike

We’ll feature real life examples of where companies and individuals have made mistakes and the consequences.

Why attend?

In this lively 90 minute presentation by two well-known lawyers advising in this area, we review many of the key issues of concern to in-house lawyers and their colleagues including data privacy, HR, IP, consumer, contractual and jurisdictional issues. We discuss the challenges, opportunities and risks for brands seeking to expand their use of social media and provide essential tools for success in this area.
