Italy to join Unitary Patent

Italy has formally given notification to the Council of the European Union of its intention to participate in the Unitary Patent.

Italy will still need to complete the required formalities in order to participate in the enhanced cooperation process for the unitary patent. Italy also still needs to ratify the Agreement on the Unified Patent Court.

This is a positive step for the unitary patent, as the coverage provided will be enhanced by the potential for Italy to participate.
