Richard’s practice encompasses drafting patent applications and overseeing their prosecution in the UK, Europe and overseas, opposing and defending granted patents before the European Patent Office, and advising on infringement and validity issues.
Richard is experienced in a wide range of technologies covering engineering and electronics. For instance, in the energy industry Richard has particular expertise in flexible pipes for oil fields, including electronic leak detection and other sensor systems. In the automotive industry Richard’s experience includes engine filtration systems and vehicle sensing systems. Richard’s experience in medical devices encompasses wound care and orthopaedic implants. In electronics Richard is an expert in mobile devices, communication networks and computer implemented inventions.
Richard works with a range of clients, from private individuals, universities and SMEs to large international corporations. As a result, he is experienced in providing advice on patent portfolio management and filing strategies.
Richard joined the profession in 2003 after working as a communications engineer following graduation in Electronic Engineering from the University of York, UK. He qualified as a UK Chartered Patent Attorney in 2006 and as a European Patent Attorney in 2007 whilst working for two other top tier firms of patent attorneys. Richard joined the York office of HGF in 2012.
