“[Katie] makes my job easier by balancing a detailed and thorough understanding of the law with real commercial nouse. Unlike other trade mark agents I have dealt with, Katie always strives to 'value add' when advising”. (Global thought leader, General Counsel)
Katie provides recommendation-led advice based on a strong understanding of clients’ commercial risks and objectives. She has in-depth experience of all aspects of brand protection, from clearance and registration to enforcement, online monitoring and domain name proceedings. Owing in part to her advocacy training at the Bar, she particularly excels in contentious matters, including settlement, and in securing favourable outcomes at ex parte hearings. She has a formidable track record in overcoming distinctiveness objections at the UK and EU IPO.
Some of Katie’s highlights include:
• Securing registration of one of the UK’s most-loved TV titles
• Integrating with the in-house teams at market leading FMCG brand to develop an IP Policy and Strategy
• Securing favourable decisions for a world esteemed luxury shoe designer in WIPO domain name proceedings
• Giving clearance advice on an experiential pop-up installation for a heritage footwear and outerwear brand
Katie has provided commentary and articles to leading fashion/retail and FMCG industry media including Drapers magazine, Campaign, FashionUnited and The Grocer, as well as IP media including World Trademark Review (WTR), World IP Review (WIPR), Intellectual Property Magazine and the CITMA Review.
She provides tailored training to in-house design, marketing and legal teams and is a regular speaker at HGF’s IP in Retail Conference.
