The European Patent Office are running an inspiring collaborative art competition for children

February 2023

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the signing of the European Patent Convention, The European Patent Office (EPO) is running a collaborative art competition for primary schools on the topic of sustainability, technology and innovation.

The new competition is designed to raise children’s awareness of sustainability and encourage them to develop valuable skills, such as being creative and thinking of new solutions to problems. The European Patent Office emphasised the importance of these skills for inventors who want to contribute to a more sustainable world with their new inventions.

Any primary school located in an EPO member state, extension state or validation state can enter by submitting a photo of artwork created by a group of at least five children, for the chance to win €3,000 to fund their school’s sustainability initiative.

Shortlisted entries will be presented anonymously in a virtual gallery to all EPO staff members, who will vote for their favourite artwork.
