The Position

We are looking to appoint a commercially minded and client centric Trade Mark Attorney to support our Trade Marks team based from either Leeds or London. You would arrive to a developed portfolio of work but with the ability to also get involved in business development initiatives. The role will work on a diverse mix of trade mark tasks and clients, including in the area of disputes and argument drafting.

Main Responsibilities

The role will be a client facing position supporting across the full range of trade mark activities, including but not limited to:

  • Discussing trade marks and designs with clients and ascertaining whether they are likely to succeed in being granted a trade mark
  • Advising on chances of success and likely legal costs
  • Suggesting modifications or extensions to the trade mark to make suitably broad claims for monopoly protection
  • Providing updates on the application process
  • Advising on the infringement and enforcement of trade mark rights
  • Advising on whether business activities will infringe someone else’s trade mark rights
  • Working with the wider Trade Mark team to identify marketing opportunities
  • Attending and contributing to relevant conferences and client events
  • Extending the levels of billable business with existing clients
  • Obtaining and developing new clients
About You

This role will suit an attorney with broad experience across the trade mark spectrum, with at least 1 year post-qualified experience, through to those with a depth of experience operating in the role. Most importantly, you will be great at dealing with clients and developing relationships with them. Stylistically you will take a commercial approach to your advice and work in harmony with your clients goals.

  • Comfortable working within a team and managing workflow with the Formalities/Paralegal team
  • Ability to express complex technical ideas clearly and concisely
  • An eye for detail
  • Excellent communications skills, both written and oral
  • Confident and credible client management
  • Ability to develop successful working relationships with a wide variety of people
  • Readiness to take responsibility
  • Proactive approach to tasks and problem solving
