Senior Patent Attorney

Chris has more than eight years’ experience in the patent profession, specialising in the field of chemistry, particularly medical devices, polymers, biochemistry, pharmaceuticals and surface chemistry. As well as drafting and prosecuting patent applications, he handles contentious EPO opposition and appeal proceedings, provides strategic advice on IP portfolios, and opinions on the infringement and validity of patents.

Chris has a broad range of expertise dealing with medical devices, pharmaceuticals, biochemistry, surfactants and surface chemistry.

As well as drafting and prosecuting patent applications before the EPO and UKIPO, Chris has experience of EPO opposition and appeal proceedings.

He provides clients with strategic advice on their IP assets and handles freedom to operate and other opinion work, and advising on infringement and validity.

Chris holds a first class Masters in Chemistry (MChem) from the University of Oxford, where he remained to study optical trapping of colloidal particles at an interface, for which he was awarded a D.Phil.  

Chris then completed a post-doctoral research position, where he studied molecular motors using single molecule fluorescence microscopy at the National Institute for Medical Research in London, and presented his work at several international conferences.

Chris joined the patent profession in 2009 with a leading Scottish IP firm, where he qualified as both a UK and European Patent Attorney, before joining HGF in 2014.
