Experience

James specialises in patent protection and intellectual property strategy, helping clients maximise the value of their IP portfolios. He has a strong technical background in the energy sector, holding a Master’s degree in Engineering with a specialisation in Sustainable Energy Systems. During his studies, he completed an engineering internship at the Culham Centre for Fusion Energy, where he contributed to the design of new technologies for the ITER and MAST-U fusion reactors.

James began his career in intellectual property as a UK Patent Examiner in 2016, gaining valuable insight into all aspects of patent prosecution and the inner workings of the IP system, knowledge he now applies to benefit his clients.

In 2020, James moved into private practice as a Trainee Patent Attorney at a small IP firm, working closely with SMEs and start-ups. He joined HGF in April 2024, where he continues to build his expertise in drafting patent applications and managing global prosecution strategies, with a particular focus on UK and European cases.

James works across a wide range of engineering fields, including robotics, medical devices, consumer technology, and manufacturing.
