An Introduction to Intellectual Property
Birmingham Research Park
HGF Partner, Dr Chris Moore will be delivering an 'Introduction to Intellectual Property' at The University of Birmingham, Birmingham Research Park on Wednesday 29th November 2017.
Intellectual property (IP) describes a wide variety of ‘creations of the mind’ that are inherently intangible, often the result of creativity and innovation which can be owned in a similar way to physical property. The protection of the IP inherent in any new idea/ innovation enables people to earn recognition or financial benefit from what they invent or create; and in the university environment, facilitates external investment to take an idea to market.
IP is protected in law, in a number of different forms including patents, copyright, design rights and trademarks. Obtaining IP rights involves different processes and requirements. The aim of this seminar will be to explain how to identify what IP is protectable and to outline the processes relating to these forms to obtain IP rights.
