HGF Women in STEM Network Evening - The CRISPR IP Battles

January 2017

HGF are hosting a Women in STEM Network Evening focusing on the CRISPR IP battles on Thursday 19th January 6pm - 8pm at the Wellcome Trust in London.

Women In STEM

Two of the most talked about female scientists in recent times are unfortunately also at the centre of a highly publicised patenting battle. The on-going patent fight over the rights to CRISPR gene editing technology has been the subject of much comment in 2016.

In one corner is the UC Berkeley team headed by Jennifer Doudna and Emmanuelle Charpentier. In the other, is a group led by Feng Zhang of the Broad Institute. It is not clear that the battle will be quickly ended but in the meantime there are already important lessons to be gleaned by anyone wishing to win at the same time both scientific accolades and commercial accolades in the form of enforceable, commercially useful patents. It is these lessons which form the basis of this talk.

Please join us for this presentation by Partner and CRISPR expert, Dr Claire Irvine  followed by drinks and nibbles on Thursday 19th January 6pm - 8pm at The Wellcome Trust, 183-193 Euston Road, Kings Cross, NW1 2BE.

To RSVP please email Liz Renn or call +44(0) 20 7776 5169.
