IP Crime Highlight Report 2013/14

The UK IP Crime Group, founded by the UKIPO, has published an interim report, highlighting its work to date in 2013/14.  The main report will follow later in the year.

The report reveals that the Police IP Crime Unit are currently investigating £28,869,991 worth of IP Crime.  The top 5 products investigated by trading standards are: Clothing, Cigarettes/Tobacco, Alcohol, Footwear and DVDs.   

With links between IP theft & economic performance, the UK's Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, is reported as saying it has been proven that a 1% rise in IP theft causes 1% fall in GDP .  The UK's HMRC keeps £500 billion of imports and exports moving and in 2013/14 detained 21,494 consignments of IPR-infringing goods at the UK border and received 980 Applications for Action from IP Rights holders.
