Experience

Scott specialises in obtaining patent and design protection and helping clients to develop and implement an IP strategy that supports their business aims. He works across all areas of engineering, in particular robotics, medical devices, Cleantech, consumer devices, FMCG, aerospace, and manufacturing.

The majority of Scott's work is with SMEs and start-ups, but he also has extensive experience working on large patent portfolios for multi-national clients. This includes a two-and-a-half year part-time secondment to the patents department of a multinational company where he gained experience in IP portfolio management, risk management, and IP exploitation. This combination of private practice and in-house experience enables Scott to offer pragmatic, business-led advice that helps his clients to succeed.

Scott is actively involved with training and mentoring trainee patent attorneys at HGF, including directly supervising work, giving tutorials, and mentoring groups through their preparation for the qualifying examinations. He also participates in the CIPA IP Clinics where inventors can get some initial IP advice free of charge to help them understand the benefits of IP and how it may help their business plans.
