Specialising in the fields of biotechnology and chemistry, Punita has a broad range of experience, handling subject matter including novel genes and peptides, genetic based therapies and diagnostics, and point of care assays and devices.
Her practice encompasses drafting patent applications and overseeing their prosecution in the UK, Europe and overseas, opposing and defending granted patents before the European Patent Office, advising on infringement and validity issues and handling pre-flotation or licence agreement related due diligence.
Over the years Punita has worked closely with universities and a small start-up companies, and is highly experienced in providing advice on patent portfolio management and filing strategies. She also works with large international corporations and foreign attorneys.
Punita joined the profession after graduating in Natural Sciences from Cambridge University in 1995. Punita qualified as a European Patent Attorney and UK Chartered Patent Agent whilst working in private practice in London, and worked as a patent attorney in Sydney, Australia for a year before joining the Manchester office of HGF in April 2004.
