Matthew is a graduate from Newcastle University having obtained an MChem Master of Chemistry with study abroad. Matthew was part of two research teams in both Munich and Newcastle where he developed a broad knowledge for fluorescent technology.

Matthew graduated from Newcastle University, having obtained an MChem Master of Chemistry with study abroad. He also studied at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München in Germany, specialising in improving the efficiency and intensity of OLED technology by designing a catalogue of novel tertiary phosphine ligands for coordination with cheaper, alternative metals, removing the need for reliance on rare earth metals.

During his Masters, Matthew worked on researching a group of fluorophores known as Boranils, which are commonly used for imaging probes, fluorescent dyes and switches.
