Trade Mark Attorney
Katie is a Chartered Trade Mark and Design Attorney.
Katie’s practice encompasses all aspects of trade mark law and designs from advising on domestic and international filing strategies, clearing, filing and prosecuting UK, European and International trade marks and advising on infringement and passing off. Katie regularly represents clients in ex partes hearings at the UK IPO and has enjoyed an exceptional success rate in overcoming distinctiveness objections at the EUIPO. Her advocacy skills are owed in part to the training she received on the Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) which led to Katie being Called to the Bar of England and Wales in 2011.
Katie has prosecuted numerous domain name disputes before Nominet and WIPO and has particular experience in monitoring e-commerce platforms for counterfeits and utilising notice and takedown procedures.
Katie is a member of HGF’s Retail Team and the Food and Drink Team and regularly provides commentary for industry leading media which has in the past included Drapers magazine, Campaign, The Grocer and FashionUnited. She has also written articles for the World Trademark Review and CITMA Review, the publication for members of the Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys. Katie presents at HGF's annual IP in Retail Conference and provides training to clients on topics which have in the past included wearable technologies, notice and takedown procedures and design rights.
Katie graduated from the University of Birmingham, UK in 2010 with a Law with German Law Honours degree (with one year study at Freie Universitat Berlin) before completing the BPTC at Nottingham Law School also in the UK. She was admitted to the Register of Trade Mark Attorneys in 2015 after successful completion of the Certificate in Trade Mark Law and Practice at Queen Mary University (Distinction) and Professional Certificate in Trade Mark Practice at Nottingham Trent University, UK.
