Trainee Patent Attorney
Joanna is a part-qualified patent attorney specialising in the pharmaceutical and chemical fields. Joanna joined HGF’s Manchester office in October 2017 and is now working towards full qualification.
Joanna graduated from the University of Durham with a First Class MChem Honours degree in Chemistry.
In 2006 Joanna joined a major global pharmaceutical company and worked in their late-stage research and development department firstly as an analytical chemist and then as a solid state scientist. Joanna worked on a number of late stage pharmaceutical projects where she worked with multi-discipline project teams to help define solid state strategies, such as the selection of a suitable physical form and the control of the physical form. Joanna also authored the solid state sections of regulatory submissions.
In September 2014, Joanna joined the in-house IP department of the pharmaceutical company. During her time in this department, Joanna gained experience in patent drafting and prosecution. Joanna was responsible for managing the IP portfolio of a number of early and late-stage pharmaceutical projects.
Joanna is currently working towards professional qualification. She has completed the Post-Graduate Certificate in Intellectual Property Law from Bournemouth University in June 2015, passed two of the UK Final Exams in October 2016 and passed the European pre-examination in March 2017.
