Dr Jerry Bretherton

Patent Director

Jerry obtained a first class honours degree in chemistry from the University of Oxford, UK and a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of British Columbia, Canada. During his doctoral research, Jerry studied zeolites and related molecular sieve materials, focussing on the use of solid state NMR spectroscopy to investigate the structure and behaviour of petrochemical catalysts.

After a period in industrial R&D, and prior to entering the patent profession, Jerry worked as a business development executive for Edinburgh Research and Innovation, to identify and commercialise chemical technologies developed by researchers at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland.

Jerry joined HGF in 2015 from a leading Scottish IP firm, where he qualified as both a UK and European Patent Attorney.

Jerry has experience of drafting and prosecuting patent applications and providing advice in relation to contentious issues in a wide range of technical fields; including chemistry, materials, oil and gas technology, and mechanical and medical devices.
