Experience

Jeff has considerable experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications in the software, electrical and electronic fields, including the principal subject matter areas of power control systems, computer architectures, digital communications, flat panel displays, digital video coding, and test and measurement instruments. He has also had experience in drafting patent applications in the FinTech and Business Methods areas, primarily for filing in the US.

Jeff has managed extensive patent portfolios across the world, and so has gained significant non-European patent prosecution experience in countries including: USA; China; Japan; Australia; Canada; India; Taiwan; Indonesia; Malaysia. As such, Jeff provides a one-stop-shop for clients without any in house IP function.

Some of the more specific other subject matters Jeff has handled over the last 18 years of practice include: Standard Essential Patents in advanced digital communications (802.11xx WiFi and Cellular Standards, particularly 5G); computer security technology; encryption; biomedical sensors; flat panel displays (LCD/Plasma, inc 3D display); digital video compression; domestic appliances; navigation systems; semiconductor manufacturing techniques (planar and 3D); nanotubes; medical devices.

Jeff's established clients include SMEs in Computer Security/Software and MEMs based biomedical/industrial sensors, and global corporations in the computing, telecommunications and test and measurement equipment areas. As such, Jeff has managed patent portfolios for start-ups and Fortune 500 US corporations alike.

Overall Jeff is a technologically excellent and proactive advisor that helps clients to navigate their IP needs with a strong emphasis on the commercial reality of their businesses, whilst always mindful of the legal issues at hand.
