Jason Lessard

Patent Director

Jason advises clients on all aspects of intellectual property. His unique commercial background shapes his approach to advising clients. Jason delivers commercially-focused outcomes that add real value to client's businesses. His experience extends across a wide range of mechanical and electro-mechanical technologies, but he has specific expertise in plastic injection moulding, automotive and aerospace technologies. 

Jason's practice covers a wide range of mechanical and electro-mechanical technologies with a particular emphasis on aerospace, automotive and packaging. He has specific knowledge and experience in injection moulding and plastics processing technologies, engines and transmission systems, braking systems, aerodynamics, medical devices, defence & assault equipment, renewable energy harvesting technologies.

The majority of Jason's work is in drafting, filing and prosecuting patent applications throughout the world for both SMEs and multinationals. He regularly advises clients on infringement avoidance and freedom to commercialise, portfolio enforcement and dispute resolution matters. Jason has also advised on multi-jurisdiction portfolio acquisitions, secured successful outcomes in EPO oppositions and examination hearings and UK IP Office Opinions and provided litigation support in High Court proceedings.

Jason holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Mechanical Engineering (Honours) from the University of Waterloo, Canada. Before entering the patent profession, he spent five years in technical sales at a multinational manufacturer of plastic injection moulding equipment in Canada, Luxembourg and the UK.

Jason is a European Patent, Trade Mark & Design Attorney and a Chartered UK Patent Attorney. He is also bilingual (French & English) and has successfully completed the USPTO Patent Bar Exam.

In his spare time, Jason enjoys flying light aircrafts (as a qualified pilot - EASE Part-FCL IMC/IRR) and buliding a roadster (from scratch), both of which provide him with a particular insight into some of his clients technologies.

Jason joined HGF in 2013 and is based in our Birmingham office.
