Dr Melvyn Ansell
Trainee Patent Attorney
Melvyn's expertise lies principally in the fields of chemistry, pharmaceuticals and nutrition.
Melvyn completed his PhD in Chemistry and MChem in Chemistry at the University of Sussex. His doctoral research focused on the development of novel palladium catalysts for use in the synthesis of pharmaceutically relevant precursors. Melvyn published his research in a number of high profile academic journals.
In 2017 Melvyn was awarded an EPSRC Doctoral Prize Fellowship at the University of Manchester. His research focused on the development of low valent iron and cobalt catalysts for use in borylation chemistry.
Prior to joining HGF in January 2020, Melvyn worked for a private practice IP firm where he gained considerable experience in patent prosecution and opposition/appeal proceedings at the European Patent Office and overseas. He was also responsible for managing the IP portfolio of a number of early and late-stage pharmaceutical projects.
Melvyn has a Post-graduate certificate in IP and is currently working towards qualifying as a UK and European Patent Attorney.
