Dr Lisa Brown
Dr Lisa Brown, also known as Lady Lisa Markham, has a degree in Biochemistry and a PhD in mammalian metabolism and toxicology from the University of Surrey. Before entering the patent profession, Lisa completed several years of post doctoral experience in risk assessment and epidemiology later becoming a Toxicology Manager.
Lisa’s practice covers a wide range of biotechnology and medical device inventions, particularly specialising in inventions relating to regenerative medicine, personalised medicine, therapeutics and biomarkers. She has experience in a number of technical fields, including wound healing, cosmetic treatments, cancer therapies, transplant and implant devices, tissue matrices, peptides, dental products, reproductive and fertility treatments.
Lisa works with a range of clients including universities, spin outs, start-ups, large biotech companies and overseas attorney firms. She has provided assistance to clients throughout their stages of development especially University spin-outs and start-ups– from early proof of concept days through to flotation. She specialises in patent drafting and prosecution and portfolio management across various jurisdictions, in addition to assessment of other parties’ rights, including freedom to operate issues.
Lisa has an enviable reputation in handling complex patent administrative issues, such as the restoration of patent rights that have been dropped by third parties. She also has a particular interest in inventorship issues.
Lisa joined the profession in 1995 and the Leeds office of HGF in 1997. She is a qualified Chartered Patent Attorney and a Registered European Patent Attorney.
