Dr Gareth Probert


Gareth specialises in helping clients working in the medtech, pharmaceutical and FMCG areas. He is also very skilled in Opposition and Appeal proceedings, and has attended over 200 hearings at the European Patent Office.

Gareth is very experienced at representing clients in Opposition and Appeal proceedings at the European Patent Office. He has achieved many successes in high value and business-critical oppositions, often working in conjunction with parallel national litigation. Gareth and his team often organise mock hearings in preparation for significant cases.

With a background in chemistry, Gareth focusses on medical technology and healthcare inventions. He has worked on pharmaceutical cases, including small molecule and peptide formulations. He also has considerable experience in the FMCG and food sectors.

After gaining BSc and PhD degrees in chemistry from Southampton University, he qualified as a UK and European Patent Attorney in 2002, winning the CIPA Gill Prize.

Gareth joined HGF in 2018 to lead the firm’s new Nottingham office.
