Patent Director

David has worked as an Examiner and Attorney (both in-house and private practice) in a career beginning in 1997.  

In-house, David managed a sizeable patent portfolio within the Vodafone Group Legal function. David oversaw the migration of Vodafone's legacy filing and records systems and has been largely responsible for providing IPR advice and patent protection to Vodafone's UK, Spanish, Italian and Greek operating companies as well as suporting Technology, Marketing and Research teams across the Group. 

David has prepared and successfully prosecuted a number of Oppositions and Appeals and attended Oral Proceedings before the Board of Appeal, Opposition Division and Examination Division of the EPO. David has also prepared advice for, and briefed counsel and senior management in, a number of contentious matters, including: licensing, 'freedom to use' and infringement issues. 

Working with large multinationals, SMEs and academia alike, David has gained wide experience of original drafting and prosecution of International, European, UK and US patent applications in computer networks, imaging, photonics, telecommunications systems (xDSL, LTE, HSPA, UNTS, GPRS, Software Radio), as well as consumer electronics and mechanical subject areas.

Based in Scotland, David supports a growing number of Scottish clients, as well as an existing international client base.
