Alex has a first class degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Sheffield, where he was awarded the Institution of Mechanical Engineers prize for gaining the highest mark on the degree programme.

Alex also holds a PhD in Biochemical Engineering from the University of Sheffield. During his PhD studies he investigated the effects of mechanical forces on human cells. This interdisiplinary project involved developing experimental and computational techniques for studying the response of cultured cells to well-defined mechanical stimuli.
