Alison Gallafent

Patent Director

Alison is a UK Chartered Patent Attorney and European Patent Attorney, with many years of experience having qualified in 1994.  Alison specialises in advising companies in the pharmaceutical and life sciences fields, and has represented both originator and generic pharmaceutical companies.

Alison has experience in drafting, filing and prosecuting patent applications before the UK Intellectual Patent Office and the European Patent Office.

Alison is also experienced in representing clients in Opposition and Appeal Proceedings at the European Patent Office and has been involved in many commercially important Oppositions and Appeals.

Alison also has experience in coordinating such European Patent Office Opposition and Appeal Proceedings with multi-jurisdictional litigation. In particular, Alison managed pan-European and US litigation, when Head of IP at Silence Therapeutics.

Additionally, Alison has considerable experience in providing FTO advice to both originator and generic pharmaceutical companies, and has worked with such companies in mapping competitor IP landscapes in the relevant technical field.

Alison has worked both as in-house patent counsel and as an external patent attorney in private practice. Alison’s in-house experience has included working for a range of pharmaceutical companies, such as Merck and Co., Glaxo Welcome, PLIVA, Teva and finally as Head of IP at Silence Therapeutics.

Alison joined HGF in 2019 and is based at HGF’s York Office.
