Achim's practice covers a wide range of chemical, pharmaceutical and mechanical inventions. He acts for a diverse range of companies across these technologies.
In particular, Achim has advised clients on numerous and diverse technologies including oil and gas technology; catalysis; chemical synthesis; cosmetics; fabrics; medical devices; nanotechnology; polymer materials; renewables; plant biology and solar cells.
Achim has considerable experience in the creation and management of cost-effective and tax optimised IP portfolios. He also regularly represents clients in Opposition and Appeal Proceedings before the European Patent Office and supports clients in multi-jurisdictional contentious situations.
He further regularly advises on intellectual property-related aspects of technology projects and transactions. Achim also conducts due diligence investigations into IP portfolios of technology companies, primarily for venture capital and private equity investors.
Achim presently co-chairs the Chemicals, Energy, Environmental and Materials Committee of the Licensing Executive Society International, and services on the Board of LES Benelux.
Achim is qualified as a Dutch, Belgian and European Patent Attorney, a registered European Trade Mark and Design Attorney, and graduated from the University of Heidelberg with a diploma and a doctorate in Chemistry. Achim also studied European Patent Infringement at the University of Strasbourg, in cooperation with CEIPI.
He joined HGF as a partner in 2015 to open and manage the firm's first continental office at the Hague, the Netherlands.
