Jonathan Thurgood Partner
Jonathan’s practice encompasses everything relating to trade marks, from advice on the adoption of new brands and the surrounding legal issues, to registration of trade marks and dealing with all kinds of disputes, from oppositions to litigation.
Chris Vaughan Partner
Much of Chris’s practice involves working closely with SMEs - many often born out of promising academic research by major UK universities - and helping them to develop effective intellectual property strategies and secure multi-million pound venture capital investments. He also works with in-house patent attorneys and senior executives at major multinationals, and has expertise in worldwide patent prosecution.

Leythem is a European and UK Patent Attorney specialising in the chemical, consumer products, energy, material and medical sectors. Having worked in private practice and industry, for European and US companies, in the UK and abroad, he is in a unique position to understand his clients' needs and provide a commercially focused service that adds value to their businesses.
Carol Watkiss HR Director and Partner
Carol joined HGF in 2008 as Head of HR for the HGF group. Her role is to work closely with the partners, reporting to the CEO, to further improve people management strategies and implement pragmatic HR practices which support the firm’s growth plans. Developing HGF to become an employer of choice is a key foundation of HGF’s HR strategy.
Craig Watson Partner
Craig's practice focuses on the mechanical and chemical fields especially in relation to the energy sector and he leads HGF's energy team. With more than a decade of experience working in Aberdeen, Craig has advised numerous local, national and international clients on IP protection.
Dr Andrew Wells Partner
Andrew’s patent practice is principally in the pharmaceutical and chemical fields. He has extensive experience in securing patent protection for pharmaceuticals and specialises in drafting and prosecuting patent applications covering new chemical entities, salts, polymorphs, formulations (including advanced drug delivery technologies), manufacturing processes, medical uses, and medical devices.
Sally Whittle Formalities Director and Partner
In June 2000, Sally joined HGF as a Partner of HGF Services. In 2004, she was promoted to National Head of Formalities, taking on responsibility for the formalities and renewals functions across the firm’s five UK offices, the development and maintenance of a procedural manual to ensure that standard procedures are documented and adhered to, as well as the development of international client relationships.
Dr Gary Wilson Partner
Gary has extensive experience covering the chemical, medical device, pharmaceutical and mechanical fields. He has represented a range of local and international companies across these technologies for more than 20 years. He is internationally recognised and recommended in the IAM 1000 (Guide to the World’s Leading Patent Practitioners) and is listed as an MIP Star.
